A Highlight Of Golden Age Television Decade
Truth or Consequences was a radio show and became a television series in the early 1950s. As all television shows were in black-and-white at the time (this being the Eisenhower presidency), and smoking cigarettes and pipes was seen as a requirement for adult livelihoods, broadcasting regulations were lenient and that is why the advertisements for cigarettes were shown on television shows such as Truth or Consequences. Nowadays, of course, cigarettes and pipes would not be advertised.

Small correction
While Jack's comment of wanting to play an April Fool's joke on his so-called "long-lost twin brother" indicates an airdate of late March, it's actually 1956, as the Spiegel catalog shown at the 28:58 mark is the one for "Spring and Summer 1956".
As for the episode itself, I think I like Jack Bailey's hosting style more than what I've seen of ToC with Ralph Edwards or Bob Barker.
